I studied up on Sadako. Sadako did not want to believe she did have leukemia. Sadako told her father, "Dad, I don't think I can have leukemia." Her father said, "the doctors are not certain. They are making tests."

Late comment (picked this up though a link from the blog of Ed Mayo, CEO designate of Co-operatives UK). I'm a worker co-operator, and would have thought that the 7 principles (in essence) cover respect for employees through the co-operative values of solidarity and equality. But, we all know about single-stakeholder group co-operatives that completely fail in this respect.

The word "HOUSING" should ipso facto embody shelter, sanitation, water, health, education and the right to a decent life.

Slums are growing faster than Cities all over the world and these slums are continuing to grow as the drift of the masses from the outskirts to the cities continues unendlessly in search of jobs and home. Forests are being denuded, grasslands are turning into deserts; rivers are drying up or getting silted and poisoned with waste dumped intio them; diseases that were known to have been nearly wiped out are resurfacing again in much more stronger strains.

Humanity as a whole , including the Co-operative movement ,has a vital role in stemming this tide of affairs as part of the Co-operative Movement's goal to stop Global Warming.

It is ony a dream but if all Nations could agree not to sell or make or buy arms and armaments and divert the trilions spent by all concerned in the armament industries, we could easily solve most of the problems faced by the cities of the world to get rid of slums; provide adequate sanitation and water; health services and create jobs within the housing circle in various sectors of livlihood.

Greetings Brian,

What a lovely article and a wonderful reminder of an enchanting day!

We are all living in Toronto now and even expecting a baby to add to my already little family of two children! This is the newest part of our lives... still waiting to meet with the doctor to establish a due date sometime in October!

take care and may warm blessing find you in good health and spirits as the winter season winds down,

respectfully J'net Cavanagh

Great review. Thanks for writing.

The problem with data on the "opposition" is that it was not generally kept and certainly not archived in any systematic and accessible way. Most of the references I had to such people and groups came from the press rather than from actual government documents. So if the reporter in 1984 got the name wrong, then I quoted an error.

However, most of the clippings from the period are archived by the military on microfiche. They have a collection of hundreds of fiche of articles on all the cruise missile events.

The only RCMP files I got through ATIP were on the planned internment of Cdns "if and when" things got really hairy.
